Sisters of the Presentation of Mary

Province of Methuen, Massachusetts

Sister Helene Bissonnette
Provincial Superior

The Methuen Province was established in 1948 with its Provincial Administration located at Marie Joseph Academy in Biddeford Pool, Maine. With time, Marie Joseph could no longer house both a flourishing Academy and the Provincial Administration; therefore, a new house was imminent. In 1957, the Searles Estate, located in Methuen, Massachusetts, was purchased. This has been the home of the Provincial Administration since. This property accommodates an infirmary for our elderly sisters, a private Academy for girls, two nursery schools and a kindergarten.

The Sisters of the Methuen Province minister in various cities and towns in Maine (Augusta, Lewiston, Saco, Biddeford) and Massachusetts (Aldenville, Gardner, Winchendon, Lawrence, Methuen). Our ministries include parish schools, pastoral work, retreat work, and outreach to the poor.

In the symbol of fire the individual logs burn away so that, united, its glowing flames send out warmth and light again and again into the land. (Why We Live in Community, Arnold, p.14)
