THE COMING OF A NEW YEAR

“From his riches we have all received,
love following upon love.”    -John 1

Another year slips away into the past of our lives.
It is like ending the chapter of a book
and beginning another that continues the story.
We finish the chapter and wonder about what events
will unfold to advance the plot.
It is not unlike the coming of the New Year
as we anticipate with hope or fear what may lie ahead.

But unlike the characters in a book,
we are free to choose our view of the future.
As we keep memory of the past,
“and the riches we have all received”
in God’s great Love,
we can look to a New Year with hope and trust,
knowing that our God walks into the future with us.

We dare continue our journey one day at a time
close to the One who “makes his dwelling among us”,
close to the One who is our Peace.
